Who are We?

The Tools of Engagement modules were developed by Michigan State University's University Outreach and Engagement (UOE), an academic support unit within the Provost's Office. UOE is a campus-wide resource dedicated to helping faculty and academic units construct more extensive and effective engagement with the communities of our state, nation, and world.

The Office advocates for and facilitates outreach initiatives, working closely with departments, centers, institutes, and MSU Extension. It promotes and provides seed funding for community-based scholarship. It also gathers and provides stakeholders with information about the ways in which MSU is fulfilling its land-grant mission.

UOE staff who developed the Tools of Engagement curriculum are a combination of experienced practitioners in engagement, education experts, distinguished engaged scholars, and MSU faculty, staff, and community partners. They have extensive experience working in and with local, state, and national organizations, and have established relationships in diverse areas such as government, mental health, K-12 education, and human services.
